Support Staff
The achievements of the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office would not be possible without the contribution of our highly skilled team of investigators, paralegals, clerks, social workers and volunteers:
Investigators work with attorneys to conduct interviews, subpoena witnesses, photograph and measure crime scenes, and conduct record searches, among other tasks.
Paralegals support attorneys by writing motions, reviewing and summarizing records, maintaining contact with witnesses, participating in trial preparation, translating and interpreting when necessary.
Clerks maintain records of court proceedings, update the computer system, answer calls from clients and relatives, and process attorney requests for information and court action.
Social workers are integral to our alternatives to incarceration and rehabilitation programs, and provide psychosocial assessments, social service referrals, and extensive follow-up to our most vulnerable clients.
