Teen Violence Prevention Worker
The San Francisco Office of the Public Defender, Mo MAGIC Program is accepting resumes for Teen Violence Prevention Workers. There are three (3) part-time temporary as-needed positions that are funded through June 2008. The working hours will vary between 10-20 hours per week based on program needs. These positions pay $18.60 an hour.
The Mo MAGIC Program is a collaborative San Francisco neighborhood-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance the educational and social development, economic and vocational activities, community Health, juvenile justice and re-entry programs of underserved youth and families in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Position Description:
Under general supervision, the Teen Violence Prevention Worker performs difficult, responsible and specialized clerical work. Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to: assisting in maintaining program documents such as: programmatic information sheets, event planning and evaluation form population, program planning updates, grant reporting, individual donor base mailings, and maintaining community based organizations contacts; maintaining regular communications via email, phone or in-person with members of the public, other government agencies and community-based organizations; support facilitation of on-going community meetings; conduct youth outreach; program implementation of juvenile justice programs; coordinate involvement and participation of interested organizations/volunteers; develop and implement a recruitment plan for the MAGIC executive youth committee; schedule youth interviews and assist youth in filling out applications; track attendance of youth, volunteers and organizations; implement ground rules established by the youth; maintain records of all visits, programs and activities; develop and coordinate youth leadership trainings and workshops with partner CBO’s in the collaborative; and perform other related duties as required.
Working Conditions:
This position requires some weekend and/or evening hours for meetings, events, fundraisers, and workshops. It will also require travel to multiple locations and the ability to lift and carry program materials (up to 50 lbs.)
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Two (2) years (4000 hours) of verifiable clerical experience comparable to job code 1404 Clerk or 1424 Clerk Typist that must have included preparing and maintaining a variety of reports or documents, public contact and performing mathematic computations; OR
2. 18 months (3000 hours) of verifiable clerical experience as described in #1 and completion of a clerical training program (240 hours);
OR
3. 18 months (3000 hours) of verifiable clerical experience as described in #1 and 15 semester units of coursework from an accredited college or university.
Desirable Qualifications:
Ability to work with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds and with difficult personalities; ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with the courts, community programs, attorneys and others; knowledge of community and court alternative programs in San Francisco; and organizational and communication skills needed to manage a large caseload, with a high volume of documentation. Ability to use Word, Word Perfect, Excel, Access, web-based membership program; experience with web development and graphic art and strong ties to one or more of the specific targeted communities (Bayview Hunters Point, Western Addition)
